Die Erde ist der dritte Planet von der Sonne und der einzige bekannte Ort im Universum, an dem Leben existiert. Ihr Durchmesser beträgt etwa 12742 Kilometer.
Die Erde besitzt eine Atmosphäre aus Stickstoff und Sauerstoff, die die Oberfläche vor schädlicher Strahlung schützt. Etwa 71 % der Oberfläche sind von Ozeanen bedeckt. Die feste äußere Hülle ist in tektonische Platten unterteilt, deren Bewegung Gebirgsbildung, Erdbeben und Vulkanismus verursacht.
Das Magnetfeld der Erde wird durch Bewegungen im flüssigen äußeren Kern erzeugt und schützt die Atmosphäre vor dem Sonnenwind. Der einzige natürliche Satellit der Erde ist der Mond.

The planet's outer shell is divided into tectonic plates whose motion drives earthquakes, volcanic activity, and mountain formation.
Earth's magnetic field, generated by the motion of molten iron in its outer core, protects the atmosphere from the solar wind. Earth has one natural satellite, the Moon.
