Das Artemis-Programm der NASA ist das aktuelle Mondprogramm der Vereinigten Staaten mit dem Ziel, Menschen zum Mond zurückzubringen und dort eine nachhaltige Präsenz aufzubauen. Es ist nach der griechischen Mondgöttin Artemis benannt, der Zwillingsschwester Apollos.

Artemis I (2022) war ein unbemannter Testflug der Orion-Kapsel und des Space Launch System (SLS). Die Mission umflog den Mond und kehrte nach 25 Tagen erfolgreich zur Erde zurück. Artemis II plant den ersten bemannten Mondumflug seit Apollo 17 (1972). Artemis III soll die erste Landung durchführen — mit dem Starship Human Landing System von SpaceX als Mondlander.

Ein zentrales Element ist die Gateway-Station — eine kleine Raumstation im Mondorbit, die als Drehkreuz für Mondlandemissionen und als Forschungsplattform dienen soll. Gateway wird von NASA, ESA, JAXA und CSA gemeinsam entwickelt.

Das Artemis-Programm beinhaltet internationale Partnerschaften durch die Artemis Accords — bilaterale Abkommen über Prinzipien der friedlichen Weltraumnutzung, denen sich über 40 Nationen angeschlossen haben.

The Artemis program is NASA's current lunar program aiming to return humans to the Moon and establish a sustainable presence there. It is named after the Greek Moon goddess Artemis, twin sister of Apollo.

Artemis I (2022) was an uncrewed test flight of the Orion capsule and the Space Launch System (SLS). The mission orbited the Moon and returned to Earth successfully after 25 days. Artemis II plans the first crewed lunar flyby since Apollo 17 (1972). Artemis III aims to carry out the first landing — using SpaceX's Starship Human Landing System as the lunar lander.

A central element is the Gateway station — a small space station in lunar orbit that will serve as a hub for lunar landing missions and as a research platform. Gateway is being developed jointly by NASA, ESA, JAXA, and CSA.

The Artemis program includes international partnerships through the Artemis Accords — bilateral agreements on principles for peaceful space exploration that over 40 nations have signed.
